Middle School Classes

These classes are appropriate for children from fifth to eighth grade unless otherwise indicated in the class description.  Please see our "Class Registration" page for specific class dates and registration fees.

Have time between classes?  This year, we are excited to offer our new Game Room, a place where our registered students can take a break, play and socialize in a safe, supervised environment.  There is no fee for our Game Room.

U.S Geography

In this class, students will learn about our great country! Students will study the states, the people and the varying terrains of the U.S.  This class includes great hands on activities as the students explore the U.S. through in-class crafts.  This class is designed for assignments to be completed at home throughout the week with in-class lectures, discussions and activities.

Each week, we will read and review a chapter in "Focus Middle School Chemistry" from Real Science 4 Kids. Worksheets will be provided. Hands on activities are planned throughout the semester. Homework will be given each week.  This class will be graded on participation and homework completion.

U.S History

Revolutionary War/Early Government:*Full- a cancellation list has been started.

"The British are coming, the British are coming"! In this series we will study the who, what, when, where, why and how this country got started. Each week will have a power point and class discussion. We will learn about the struggles the colonists faced leading up to the war, not just by Great Britain, but the French and Native Americans. We will discuss the point of view from all sides. We will also learn about spys, battle tactics and creating our government.  We will have many hands-on activities or crafts. There may be a book study, not yet determined.

This semester we will be using Spanish For You!.  This curriculum is geared toward grades 3-8. Each "theme" is a year long curriculum. There are no prerequisites, a student can jump in at the beginning of any theme! A student package will be required. It provides worksheets, flash cards and more.  We will also enjoy some cuisine from Mexico and Spain when possible. This class is designed for assignments to be completed at home throughout the week with in-class lessons, practice and activities.

Class Fee: $10 supply fee, plus the Student Package "Conversaciones" (gr.7/8) @ $42.95(Themed student package is good for one calendar year)  We are inquiring about getting a 10% group discount from the publisher. Once we receive a coupon code, we will email it to registered parents.


 We will continue the exploration of foods from different cultures and learn a variety of cooking skills along the way. For the fall I am thinking to explore foods from different parts of the United States! Due to space constraints, the class size is strictly limited to 6 students for each class. Because we are exploring so many types of foods, this class is not suitable for students with food allergies or severe sensitivities.

In this class we will have critical thinking challenges in a fun environment, promote an active lifestyle, develop teamwork and leadership skills, physical fitness challenges that may include soccer or rely races, build healthy bones, reduce stress and build self esteem. P.E is so important for our mental and physical well being. We can't wait to have fun with you this semester and grow together!. The Monday class will be shared with the High School students.

Pre-Algebra/Algebra 1: Instead of teaching a formal Pre-Algebra or Algebra class, I am offering essentially math tutoring for these two classes. Proceed at your own pace and I will provide help/explanations/whatever support you need to get through the class. You may choose textbooks you have available, but I recommend for Pre-Algebra the Math Mammoth Grade 7 or https://bim.easyaccessmaterials.com/index.php?level=9.00, and for Algebra 1 https://bim.easyaccessmaterials.com/index.php?level=11.00. This class will just meet once a week.

This year we will be offering Institute for Excellence in Writing! This class will be twice a week, to ensure enough time for each lesson and guided practice. Student workbooks/packages are required and can be purchased online.

Math Facts

In this class students will learn and practice the multiplication table. The goal of this class is fluency. Multiplication is the foundation for division, fractions and more! We will start with repeated addition facts as a warm up to the multiplication table being learning that week. We will be using Rocket Math. This curriculum offers worksheets and an online game. The online portion tracks the students progress, reinforces, adapts, rewards and challenges for success. At-home worksheet practice is required.

Class Fee: $8 class fee, plus the cost on the online subscription. Online subscription cost depends on the amount of students signed up. Estimated cost is $5 for semester.

Game Room ~ Free Period

This room will be designated for those students with a "free period", between other classes. This is for all school ages. The room will be monitored by a Parent/Volunteer at all times. Different types of board games, cards etc. will be available for play.

In this class students will learn challenging vocabulary. We will using Megawords I. Students will study correct spelling, definitions, proper word usage and more. Each student will need his or her own copy of the workbook. Cursive will also be practiced each week, worksheets will be provided.
