Elementary School Classes

These classes are appropriate for children from first to fourth grade.  Please see our Class descriptions and Class Registration pages for specific class dates, requirements, suggested grade range and registration fees.

Have time between classes?  This year, we are excited to offer our new Game Room, a place where our registered students can take a break, play and socialize in a safe, supervised environment.  There is no fee for our Game Room.

This year we will be offering Institute for Excellence in Writing! This is the 2nd semester, a continuation of the 1st. This class will now be once a week for 2 hours, to ensure enough time for each lesson and guided practice. Student workbooks/packages are required and should have been purchased online.

U.S History

Gilded Era to the Great Depression( American History)

This semester we are diving into the Gilded Era to the Great Depression. We will set the scene with the end of the Civil War. We will discuss the rise and fall of the Gilded Era, the Progressive Era, WWI, the roaring 20's and end with the Great Depression. WWII ended the Great Depression. I would like to continue the timeline in the fall, starting with WWII and diving deep into the WW, the Civil Rights Movement and end with the Vietnam War, if possible!

Geography

Let's take a trip around the world!  We will learn about the various climates, geographical landforms, dinosaurs, the seven continents, the five oceans, languages, and the culture of various countries.  We will also be creating a craft that is culturally related to the country that we are studying for the week.  Homework will be given to be completed at home and returned the next class.

Beginner Spanish:

In this class we will learn Spanish and Spanish culture through music, games, hands-on activities, food and fun!  This is a great class for younger learners who are not yet proficient in reading and writing.  While this class is more fun than academic, there will be some light homework involved.  Please plan for about an hour of homework per week for this class.  This class is a great pre-requisite for Spanish I, which will be offered in the fall of 2022.

Science

"Focus on Biology"

Each week we will read and review a chapter in, "Focus on Biology" from Real Science 4 Kids. Worksheets will be provided. Hands on activities are planned throughout the semester. Homework will be given each week. This class will be graded on participation and homework completion.

Game Room ~ Free Period

This room will be designated for those students with a "free period", between other classes. This is for all school ages. The room will be monitored by a Parent/Volunteer at all times. Different types of board games, cards etc. will be available for play.

This class is all about fun and creativity!  We will use paint, glue, yarn, magnets, tinfoil, magazines, cardboard and all kinds of stuff to make beautiful, unique creations!  We will learn a different art technique each week!

Spelling/Cursive Practice

In this class students will be using All About Spelling. This is a continuation of last semester.  It uses the Orton-Gillingham approach. We will start with Level 1. Each progressing level builds on the previous lessons. Parents will be responsible to purchase a "Teacher/Student Packet", approx. $35 and a Basic Interactive Kit $23, which can be found on many homeschool curriculum sites. Each week students will practice cursive writing with spelling words. Students will continue to complete lessons at home with parental guidance and instruction. This class will be continued in the spring semester, so if continue class, next semester will only be a small class fee.

Engineering/STEM

Each week we’ll discuss an engineering field (civil, mechanical, chemical, biological, software, etc.) and then design and build a model/experiment that represents that type of engineering using the Engineering Process. Planned activities include making a solar oven to cook s’mores, a marble roller coaster, a Rube Goldberg machine, and many others. Parents are encouraged to participate especially with younger children.
